Tips for changing the adjectives into adverbs

An adjective is a word that describes or tells you something more about a noun. Beautiful, warm, mean, strong etc are a few good examples of adjectives. An adverb is a word that describes or tells you something more about the verb. Happily, slowly, hastily etc are a few examples of adverbs. By following a few rules, you can convert the adjectives into adverbs. Here are a few tips to guide you.

Instructions for changing the adjectives into adverbs:

1. When you add “ly” to any adjective, you will automatically get an adverb. For instance consider a word “beautiful” which is an adjective. When you add “ly” to the word the word turns into beautifully which is an adverb.

2. If an adjective ends with the letter “y” then you can change the last letter of the word into “i”. You can then add “ly” to change the particular word into an adverb. For instance the adjective “happy” ends with the letter “y”. When you change the word into adverb it becomes “happily”.

3. Some words cannot be changed from adjective to adverbs. If you add “ly” at the end of the adjective, the entire meaning of the word changes. Words like fast, hard, early or late cannot be changed from adjective to adverb form. For instance, the word “hard” changes into hardly after the addition of “ly”. This word will not be the appropriate adverb that one is looking for.

4. Sometimes you have to change certain adjective to give them the same meaning when they are converted into adverbs. For instance the word “good” has to be changed into “well” to give it an adverb form. “I feel good today” can also be referred as “I feel well today”.
